Peugeot New 3008 SUV
The Peugeot 3008 is one of the best-looking crossovers on the market bar none. It has an exceptional design thanks to Peugeot’s new approach that spreads across the range.
The car is modern, looks great, drives well and has the practicality to match.
If you’re looking for a top class crossover that’s a little different from the norm, the Peugeot 3008 is one to try.
That’s especially true thanks to the recent redesign. The 3008 now looks even better and has more responsive and frugal engines.
A new frameless grille and side vents are minor updates but transform the look and feel of the front end. These changes are reflected at the rear with a new smoked light design.
Peugeot 3008 design
The Peugeot 3008 continues the design language of the wider Peugeot range. It has an angular front end, large grille, raked windscreen and panel detailing throughout.
The 3008 sits high but doesn’t have the bulk of a traditional crossover or SUV. It somehow manages to camouflage that extra cabin space behind design flourishes.
The front end starts low and curves up over the bonnet to the screen. Then the lines flow over a curved roof and past a rising beltline to the rear quarter.
At the rear is a hatch and a horizontal bar that runs the width of the vehicle with lights either side.
It’s a very coherent design that flows well and belies the crossover proportions
Interior and technology
Peugeot has always given us great interiors and this is no exception. Materials are top quality, the cabin is spacious and feels light, the seats are incredibly comfortable and there is storage everywhere.
You also get Peugeot’s i-Cockpit system that has a 12.3 inch instrument display and a 10 inch touchscreen at the centre for infotainment.
Both of which provide an upmarket feel as well as easy access to displays and controls.
The overall feel inside the Peugeot 3008 is one of a premium car even though you’re not paying a premium. There are no rattles, road noise is kept to a minimum and you feel as though you’re being well looked after.
Engines and performance
The Peugeot 3008 offers three petrol engines, two with hybrid drive and a diesel.
The petrol engines include a 1.2 PureTech 130 turbocharged three-cylinder that produces 130 hp.
The two hybrid engines, Hybrid 225 e-EAT8 (225 hp) and Hybrid 300 e-EAT8 (300 hp), use a 1.6 litre petrol engine along with one or two electric. Both use a 13.2kWh battery pack that can charge in 105 minutes and provide up to 39 miles electric only range.
The diesel option is a 1.5 BlueHDi 130 four cylinder that produces 130 hp.
Engines use a combination of six speed manual or eight speed automatic transmission to drive the front wheels.
While small, each engine delivers power on demand and can propel the 3008 along the road smoothly and progressively.
Peugeot has always given us balanced chassis and suspension setups and the 3008 is no different. While no roadster, this crossover rides much better than you think it would and has a genuinely plush ride.
Driving and practicality
The Peugeot 3008 delivers an engaging drive and is much more interesting than a typical crossover once you’re behind the wheel.
Visibility is excellent thanks to the height and large front screen. Even though the rear screen is small, you can still see clearly out the back.
Acceleration is swift and every engine in the range responds well to input, especially the petrol and hybrids. Both transmission types are geared well and enable you to enjoy your drive without having to overload the engine.
There is no AWD option but the Advanced Grip Control helps you drive in all conditions and provides grip and power delivery in normal, snow, mud and sand.
Practicality is also good. The tailgate offers full access to the rear of the car and combines with generous boot space with seats up or down.
There are cubbies and storage throughout the 3008, which makes it ideal for family life.
Test drive and contact
If you’re looking for a modern crossover that doesn’t fit the mould, the Peugeot 3008 could be it.
It’s modestly sized so it’s easy to park and drive, yet has enough space for all the family and lots of boot space.
It’s an excellent option for anyone who likes a premium experience but doesn’t want to pay premium prices.
