Car Servicing
Car servicing can help maintain engine efficiency, improve safety and handling and provides the reliability we all need from our car.
Servicing can also help ensure it remains safe, comfortable and able to deliver the freedom and independence we want from a car. It’s also a convenient time to have your MOT test done at the same time.
Van Servicing
Van servicing helps keep your van running at its optimum, able to be there when you need it. The average work van has to cope with daily, and often, heavy use.
If you depend on the van for work, you don’t want it to let you down. Regular servicing from the trained team at Budgen will help ensure your can is always ready for work.
If you book a service along with an MOT test, you minimise the time you’re off road and in the garage.
Types of Vehicle Servicing
Most manufacturers recommend servicing every 12 months or 12,000 miles, whichever comes first.
There are typically three types of vehicle service, interim service, full service and major service.
Exactly what is included with each depends on your make and model of vehicle. Contact Budgen to discuss the specifics and book your service.
Interim Service
An interim service is ideal for low-mileage drivers or just before a driving holiday or long journey.
Interim servicing can include:
- Full brake check and inspection of all wear parts including tyres
- Oil and filter change
- Diagnostic check of engine management systems
- Fluid top-ups
Full Service
A full service will typically be annual or at set mileages as recommended by the manufacturer.
A full service can include:
- Everything in the interim service
- Air filter change
- Transmission oil and clutch fluid top up
- Engine and drivetrain inspection
- Full nose to tail check of all moving parts and components
- Any specific checks or component changes recommended by the manufacturer
Major Service
A major service is typically every 2 years or at a set mileage as recommended by the manufacturer.
A major service can include:
- Everything in the full service
- Change of all fluids and filters
- Check of all components for wear and efficiency
- Full car diagnostic
- Bodywork and chassis condition check
Contact Budgen for full details of what’s included with each service type.
When is my service due?
Most newer vehicles will remind you when it is due for a service. You’ll either see a warning on your infotainment screen or by the instruments in your dashboard.
Otherwise, check your logbook or service book if you have one. There should be a servicing stamp somewhere in there that tells you when it was last serviced.
Most manufacturers recommend servicing every 12 months or 12,000 miles, whichever comes first.
If the last stamp was longer than 12 months or 12,000 miles ago, it’s probably time for a service!
The importance of regular vehicle servicing
Regular vehicle servicing is preventative maintenance that can avoid breakdowns and component failures. If you depend on your car or van for work or to get around, you want to be able to depend on it. Regular servicing helps with that. The average car has thousands of moving parts that depend on fluids, rubber belts or bushes. The efficiency of your car depends on all those things being in optimum condition and working to fine tolerances.
Anything other than optimum means less efficiency, lower performance and a potential reduction in comfort and safety.
By checking fluids regularly, you know they are fresh and performing their job. By checking filters and wear parts, you can avoid them breaking when you need them most.
With regular inspections of brake fluid, brakes and tyres, you’re helping ensure your car is safe for you to drive on the road.
A full vehicle inspection can also spot the early signs of wear and potential component failure. As we know, prevention is always better than cure!
What to bring to the service?
Having your car serviced is easy. All you need to bring is the car, your logbook if you have one and the wheel nut lock if your car uses them.
It would help if your car was clean and your boot empty as it will help us inspect it.
If your car doesn’t have a logbook, don’t worry. We have the equipment to update the car’s computer and the manufacturer as required.
